Buhari’s Aide Reacts To A Judge’s Verdict After A Banker Was Fined N100k For A N200m Fraud

President Buhari‘s
Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has taken to her
Instagram to raise concern after a judge handed a N100,000 fine or one
year jail term to a banker who stole N200 million.

The convict, Tajudeen Yusuf, a former branch manager of Skye Bank,
Jos, who was prosecuted on a 5-count charge, following a complaint by
his employers, allegedly defrauded Alhaji Usman Tetengi, a customer of
the bank, to the tune of N200m when he issued him fake deposit
certificate and diverted the money to personal use.

EFCC, on 29th June, 2017 secured the conviction whose charges includes:

Count One: “That you, sometimes between the year 2010 and 2013 in
Jos, Plateau state, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N200m
under false pretense from one Alhaji Usman Tetengi to be placed as fixed
deposit in the bank to yield profit.”

Count two: “That you had sometime February, 2011, in Jos, Plateau
State, did make a falsify a Deposit Confirmation Advice with intent to
be used and acted upon as genuine.”

Count Three: “That you had sometime in between August, 2012 and 1st
November, 2012 in Jos, Plateau State, knowingly and fraudulently
presented a false document to wit: a Deposit Confirmation Advice with
intent that it be acted upon as genuine.”

Count four: “That you had sometime February, 2011, in Jos, Plateau
State, did make a false document to wit: National Drivers Licence in the
name of Alhaji Usman Tetengi purportedly issued on the 17thFebruary,
2011, with intent to be used and acted upon as genuine.”

Count five: “That you had sometime between 2011 and 2013, did
knowingly and fraudulently presented a false document to wit: National
Drivers Licence in the name of Alhaji Usman Tetengipurportedly issued on
the 17th February, 2011, with intent to be used and acted upon as
genuine.”

In his judgment, Justice Alagwa discharged and acquitted the convict
on counts one, four and five but found him guilty on counts two and
three and sentenced him to six months imprisonment on each of the
counts.

He however gave him the option of N100,000 fine.

Presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, is however not happy with the judgement and has since voiced her opinion on Twitter.

She said:

Judges join the fight on crime and corruption? This is a disgrace. Steal
N200 Million, get slap on the wrist @Zahrahmusa
